We are Mitchell Golf Certified!
Whether you’re a tournament player, high handicapper or beginner, having the right clubs is crucial to making the most of your ability and getting the maximum enjoyment from the game.
This means that your clubs need to be exactly right for your unique physical characteristics and style of play. But it doesn’t mean that you need to spend hundreds or even thousands of dollars on an entirely new set of clubs.
Bring your clubs to us and we’ll quickly assess their suitability for you
At Moon Golf in Melbourne FL, we have many years of experience in the game and all our staff are enthusiastic and knowledgeable golfers who specialize in tailoring existing clubs to players’ precise requirements.
Club Shaft Specification
For reasons of cost
almost all off the shelf clubs are produced to standard specifications.
So it may well be that you will need slightly longer shafted clubs if the sole is to lie squarely on the ground as you need it to. Otherwise you will be forced into adjustments of stance and posture which may well interfere with your swing. It may not seem a big deal, but golf is a game of very fine margins.
Likewise, the flexibility of the shaft is very important. If you’re unusually strong and a long hitter you may well benefit from a stiffer than regular shaft, such as the pros typically use, but if you struggle to achieve distance you may do better with a more flexible than regular shaft.
You also need to pay attention to the so-called “swing weight” of your clubs. It sounds technical, but is in reality just a measure of the weight of the club head as a proportion of the weight of the whole club. The higher the figure, the heavier the club will feel during your swing. Pros and low handicap amateurs will generally favor a heavier feel, but this will not be suitable for everyone.
At Moon Golf we can quickly analyze your swing speed, determine the correct swing weight to suit your game, and adjust your clubs accordingly.
Although the power in your swing is largely determined by the turn of your upper body on the backswing, and the drive of your hips and legs in the downswing, your hands also play a crucial role in controlling the clubface and the elusive “feel” of the shot. And for them to work effectively it’s imperative that the grips on your clubs are right for you.
So if you have unusually large or small hands you may well need the thickness of the grips modified. Our experts can quickly determine this and if necessary re-grip your clubs while you wait. Feel is of course particularly important when putting so we’ll check your putter grip as well.
